How to Use Bloodstone, Dragonite, and Empyreal Fragments

The Guild Wars 2 city of Tarir and an Awakened

Play Guild Wars 2 for long enough, and you soon build up a supply of Bloodstone Dust, Dragonite Ore, and Empyreal Fragments. There are a few special-purpose things you can craft with these GW2 materials, but for the most part, they clutter up your inventory. What can you do with Bloodstone Dust? How can you use Dragonite Ore? What are Empyreal Fragments for?

One answer is: eaters. Also called “converters,” these are special objects you can earn in Guild Wars 2. Once a day, you can double-click these objects in your inventory. They consume materials and give you a random assortment of equipment, gear, and crafting materials.

Bloodstone Dust: Herta

Herta is the remains of an Exalted Burnisher. Her remains can be found in the Vinetooth Den in Auric Basin after you complete a relatively simple treasure hunt in Tarir.

You can only use Herta once per day. Herta eats 250 Bloodstone Dust and gives you three items:

  • A random piece of leveled gear
  • A Pile of Exalted Dust
  • A random Tier 5 crafting material

Bloodstone Dust: Mawdrey II

You automatically get Mawdrey II (the Bloodstone eater) when you unlock Mawdrey (the ascended back piece). Mawdrey is the most expensive and time-consuming eater by far, but considering it comes with an ascended back piece, it’s worth the effort.

Making Mawdrey is a complicated process. We recommend consulting the Dulfy guide and the official wiki entry for more information.

You can use Mawdrey II 3-6 times per day. Mawdrey eats 50 Bloodstone Dust and gives you an assortment of loot.

  • A random piece of leveled gear
  • A random trinket or item of junk
  • A random crafting material

Dragonite Ore and Bloodstone Dust: Sentient Anomaly

This eater is your reward for completing the Conspiracy of Dunces achievement in Bloodstone Fen. All you have to do is run around collecting journal pages for three White Mantle journals. We recommend the walkthroughs on the official wiki:

You can use the Sentient Anomaly 3-6 times per day. The Anomaly eats 25 Bloodstone Dust and 25 Dragonite Ore and returns an assortment of loot.

  • A random piece of leveled gear, Masterwork or better
  • A random trinket or item of junk
  • A random crafting material

Dragonite Ore: Princess

To get Princess, you need to complete the Lion’s Arch Exterminator achievement by running around Lion’s Arch shooting all the karka hatchlings with a special gun.

The only difficult thing about this achievement is that after you complete it, you will no longer see the karka hatchlings. This means that someone who has already gotten Princess cannot help you find the hatchlings.

Luckily, there are several YouTube guides for this achievement. We recommend the Dulfy guide.

You can use Princess 3-6 times per day. Princess eats 50 Dragonite Ore in exchange for three items:

  • A random piece of leveled gear
  • A random trinket or item of junk
  • A random crafting material

Empyreal Fragments: Star of Gratitude

You can only unlock the Star of Gratitude during Wintersday. The hunt for the Star of Gratitude involves some treasure hunt elements, and several jumping puzzles. We recommend the Dulfy guide.

You can use the Star of Gratitude 3-6 times per day. The Star eats 50 Empyreal Fragments and grants you three items:

  • A random piece of leveled gear
  • A random trinket or item of junk
  • A random item, either crafting material, upgrade, salvage item, or consumable
