Mad King Thorn, ready to play a round of Guild Wars 2 Mad King Says

Learn more about this annual GW2 Halloween game of “Simon Says,” led by Mad King Thorn in Lion’s Arch.

Where Is Mad King Says?

The GW2 Mad King Says event takes place in Lion’s Arch, at the Grand Piazza in Lion’s Court south of the Mystic Forge.

When Does Mad King Says Start?

Mad King Says timer is every other hour, on the hour, starting at reset. (Actually 1-2 minutes past the hour.) In the Pacific Time Zone it happens at 5PM, 7PM, 9PM, etc. In Eastern Time it happens at 8PM, 10PM, midnight, etc.

How Does Mad King Says Work?

Mad King Says works like Simon Says. If Mad King Thorn says “Your Mad King says…” then players must do the emote. If the Mad King does NOT say “Your Mad King says…” then players must do NO emotes.

Example 1: “My loving subjects, did I hear you beckon me? Your Mad King says… BECKON!” Players need to do the /beckon emote.

Example 2: “I love having courtiers at my beck and call. I doubt any of you knows what that feels like. Oh, perhaps your King will allow you to try it. BECKON!” Players do NOT do the emote. (He didn’t say “Mad King says…”!)

If you fail to do the right emote at the right time, or you do an emote when the Mad King didn’t say, you will be knocked flat. You will also lose a few stacks of the buff you need in order to get the key fragments for the chest.

Why Should I Play Mad King Says?

Once per day, you can earn three key fragments. Double-click to turn them into a key. You can use this key to open the chest at the end of the event. The chest will contain one Glob of Ectoplasm plus either 5, 10, or 50 (very rare) Trick-or-Treat bags. There are also three rare drops: Mini Spooky Moa, Mini Thailog the Gargoyle, and Tattered Bat Wing. Not bad for 10 minutes of work!

How Do You Do the Emotes?

Type the emote command, which is a forward-slash followed by the command, with no spaces. IMPORTANT The command must be spelled correctly, and the emote must be done before the timer runs out.
