What Is Raven Sanctum?
You first encounter the Raven Sanctum in the GW2 story Whispers in the Dark. Raven Sanctum is a maze with three different rooms, each of which poses you a question. Each room is connected by a short maze with a difficulty factor.
Raven Sanctum also features four loot chests, and a related achievement.
The Basics
The Raven Sanctum appears in the story step “The Invitation” from the first episode of the Icebrood Saga. You can also go directly to the Raven Sanctum from the Bjora Marches map.
Raven Sanctum Walkthrough
A map of the Raven Sanctum has been posted to the official wiki. However, this is only part of the challenge.
Raven’s Questions
In each room, the raven totem will pose you a scenario which you must answer. There is no wrong answer. There are three of these rooms. Each combination of answers results in you receiving a different buff. There’s an achievement for getting each buff. More on those later.
Raven Sanctum Maze
The first maze section is simple. At the first junction, head left. Enter the room.
Dark Maze
The second maze section is dark, particularly when you do Raven Sanctum in the story instance. To help navigate the maze, go to your game’s graphics options and turn the Gamma up as high as you can stand it.
To get through this part of the maze in the story instance, interact with the first raven statue you encounter. A ball of light (raven spirit) will fly out of the statue. Follow it through the maze. When it stops, interact with the next raven statue.
Continue until you find a big mirror. Interact with the mirror. This turns the mirror so that the flying lights bounce off the reflection and keep going. The next room is nearby.
NOTE: When you repeat Raven Sanctum outside the story instance, it’s not as dark. Also, the balls of light are replaced by ghostly ravens. Follow the ravens as you did for the balls of light. However, there is no mirror. At the point when the raven spirits stop, continue forward. The door to the next room is on the left.
Poison Maze
The final maze is filled with green poison gas. This section has two types of raven statue:
Protection This statue is holding its wings forward protectively. Interact with this statue to get a protective sphere which saves you from the poison gas.
Key This statue is holding a key in its beak. Interact with this statue to unlock the force field blocking the entrance to the third room.
If you turn left out of the second room, you will see a doorway which is barred by a force field. Turn back, and interact with the first raven statue to get protection. Continue past it to the right. At the end of the hallway is the key statue.
Interact with the key statue then turn around and go back. Continue straight, through the doorway which was blocked.
Raven Sanctum Loot
After you answer the question in the third room, you can go to the final room. This room has four chests you can open for loot. Including, most notably, 1-2 Eitrite Ingots. In fact, this is one of the only ways to get Eitrite Ingots, which you need to craft the Restored Boreal weapons.
How Often Can You Do Raven Sanctum?
You can repeat Raven Sanctum once every 24 hours per character. Unlike most other aspects of Guild Wars 2, Raven Sanctum does NOT reset at 0:00 UTC. Instead, this seems to be a rolling 24-hour period based on when you did it last.
Raven Sanctum Buffs
You get the achievement Mysteries of the Raven Sanctum (Hero Panel > Achievements > Story Journal > Whisper in the Dark) for getting each of the eight buffs.
To make it easier, this achievement tracks which buffs you have already gotten, and which you need. The buff you get is determined by your answers to the three raven totem dilemmas.
