Grothmar Valley Chef Event

GW2 Grothmar Valley Chef Event

Chef Mellitus needs your help preparing the feast! Learn how to help him, what he’s asking for, and how to complete this event successfully.

The Chef event is a dynamic event which takes place in Keep Kitchen, west of Blood Keep Waypoint in the GW2 Grothmar Valley map.

This event has two related achievements:

  • Bound by Blood Mastery > No Ingredients Wasted. Give the chef 10 correct ingredients in a row.
  • Bound by Blood Mastery > Master Sous-Chef. Successfully complete this event.

Chef Mellitus asks you for one ingredient at a time. He may additionally ask you to chop or sear the ingredient. Collect the ingredient he requests, then throw it at his feet using the 2 skill.

Chef Event Walkthrough

To join the event, interact with the Chef Wardrobe. This clothes you in a chef’s outfit, and removes your regular skills.

The ingredients are arranged on three tables in the kitchen. A cutting board is located on each side of the kitchen. A grill is in the center of the kitchen.

Listen to Chef Mellitus to find out what ingredient he wants, and how he wants it.

In his first dialogue, he asks for one of the following:

  • Apple
  • Boar meat
  • Cactus meat
  • Chicken stock
  • Coconuts
  • Flour
  • Honey
  • Salmon
  • Secret sauce
  • Shark meat
  • Spiky fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Water

In his second dialogue, he tells you if he wants the item:

  • Chopped
  • Seared
  • Whole

Pick up the ingredient Chef Mellitus wants. If he asks for the item chopped or seared, interact with the cutting board or the grill. When the item is prepared (or if he wants it whole), use your 2 skill to throw the item at him.

A timer over your head shows how much time you have left to deliver the correct ingredient.

Targeting the Chef

Chef Mellitus runs around the kitchen preparing the meal. Wait for him to stop before you target and throw your item.

You will most likely only have enough time to throw him an item once, so make it count. It’s better to wait a moment to secure your target than to panic and throw your item too soon.

The best targeting strategy is to center your target at his feet. Depending on where he stops, you may need to move so you can see his feet before you throw.

Accessibility

This event can be challenging for players who find it difficult to process dialogue (either spoken or read) quickly in a high-pressure environment.

If you rely on text, be sure to have NPC chatter turned on, so that Chef Mellitus’s instructions are printed in your chat window. Click the triangle on your chat tab and check the “NPCs” box.

If you rely on audio dialogue, you may want to turn up the dialogue volume. Options > Sound Options > Dialog Volume.

Luckily, you don’t have to successfully deliver any ingredients in order to get credit for this event. As long as you don the chef’s outfit and participate by picking something up and throwing it, you will at least get Bronze participation. (Assuming the event succeeds, of course.)
